The Illawarra Light Railway & Museum is based in Albion Park NSW on the southern side of the Illawarra regional airport and is only a 20 min drive south from Wollongong.
The Museum is opened traditionally on the second Sunday of each month from 10am to 3pm and the forth Saturday of the month from 10am to 2pm.- The Museum hosts other events and fun family themed nights eg Halloween. Our Museum is a great place for families to have a great day out! The museum is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 2pm to the public. Railway Operating Days
Train rides are available on the Second Sunday of each month, from 10am to 3pm and also the forth Saturday of the month from 10am to 2pm,Check the website for extra running days and public holiday's through the year. On each operating days there are two rides being the two foot gauge main line that is powered by a steam or diesel locomotive and the miniature railway - food and souvenir sales and picnic grounds with kids play areas are also available. Entry is FREE into the grounds only, usage of the picnic grounds with wood fired bbq’s and children’s' play areas is also free, train ride fees apply. Parking is available inside the museum grounds.
The shelters in the picnic area can be reserved on running days for groups. Book ahead to avoid disappointment!
Children's Birthday Parties & Event Hire
The museum site is available for hire for private functions such as Christmas Parties, Weddings or Social Club functions. Schools' educational visits are a specialty and are very welcome. Site hire can be organised with or without the railway in operation. Depending on your budget, you may choose from the miniature railway, diesel or steam train or go for all the options!
Up to 50 visitors is $500.00 per hour with a minimum of two hours.
Groups of more than fifty may be accommodated by special arrangement and price negotiation.

Volunteer operated and founded in 1972, our charter is the collection and restoration of light railway artefacts that includes both steam and diesel locomotives have come from the Sugar Cane Industry and industrial railways and tramways, including coal mines and blue metal workings, note our charter also states to provide a place of interests for visitors to enjoy.
