SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOP - DAY 1 MONDAY 28 JUNE
Craft A Story (With Pat Simmons)
Create your own set of creative story cubes, shake them up, let them fall and inspire your own story! This is a fun, creative and hands-on way to write stories. Suitable for all primary school aged children. CLICK HERE TO BOOK
Wacky Poem Art (with Imogen Ross)
Using poems as the creative springboard, young artists are encouraged to use lead pencil, pen and ink, or watercolour pencils, to doodle and make visual word associations. Bring along your favourite funny poem to illustrate, or read one of the examples given as an inspirational starting point. Suitable for all primary school kids who love to draw, scribble, doodle, and draw their thoughts.
Book Re-Engineering (with Imogen Ross)
Kids will break all the rules and fold, scrunch, tear and re-work the pages to turn the book into a 3D object that literally has words falling out of it! CLICK HERE TO BOOK
SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOP - DAY 2 TUESDAY 29 JUNE
Day 2 of the program has two workshops led by Prime Minister’s Literary Award winner and the leader of our Young Writers Program, Helena Fox
Secret Ingredient, Short Story Soup
How do you write a short story? What are short stories made of and how are they different from novels or poems? In this workshop, we’ll look at the ingredients of short stories and how to create a story that’s unique and compelling. We’ll look at character, plot, setting and voice, and all the secret, clever things that make a short story sing. And if you want, you can finish your story at day and submit it to this year’s Olga Masters Junior Short Story Prize! CLICK HERE TO BOOK
Playing around with words
Mucking about with language and the way words appear on a page is one of the funnest and most freeing things you can do in creative writing. In this workshop, we’ll play with words and storytelling forms in new and experimental ways. You will be invited to write free-verse poetry, unusual perspectives, backwards stories, and anything else we think of. We will look outside the box and see what we find! CLICK HERE TO BOOK
Young Writers Program: If your child loves writing they can join SCWC'S young writers’ community for weekly after-school creative writing classes. New class starting Wednedsay afternoons in Coledale in Term 3.
